The Fashion List names GMac the “go-to guy for edgy, envelope-pushing cocktail fashions!”

Tuesday, September 11th, 2012
Christopher Henry Gallery
In his last collection, Geoffrey Mac showed himself to be the go-to guy for edgy, envelope-pushing cocktail fashions; in this collection, he masters cocktail, unisex casual, menswear & swim. We’re happy to say that he didn’t lose his signature style in the expansion. Limited largely to neutrals, the restrained palette allowed the bold design lines & details to really shine. The softer palette also makes the collection appealing to a wider population, but without sacrificing Geoffrey’s unique aesthetic.
The most memorable pieces included a black georgette piece with spiked leather detailing; it’s shoulder-embracing design, open in the front & modest but spikey in the back, was a real fashion week standout. We also loved the stretchy sheath dresses with angular, pieces design lines, & a flowing angelic caftan – showing that Geoffrey can dress good girls as easily as rockers. A dressy white men’s motorcycle jacket with accordion-like circular shoulder details was especially breathtaking, as were the women’s pieces with this same shoulder detailing. We’d noted Geoffrey’s masterful patternmaking skills before, & they are clearly back in full-force.
On the casual end, the unisex drop-crotch pants, while a step in a different direction, should have wide-appeal for men & women, as should the tanks decorated with an abstract alphabet of runes. These same runes, projected in animation on the gallery walls, set the tone for the whole successful show: edgy, confident, structural, a bit mysterious & very unique.

BlackBook article about “ODD” Retailer’s featured designers
The first thing that new online retailer and appointment-only boutique ODD will tell you is that they are not the norm. "We don't believe in men. We don't believe in women. We believe in individuality." This is their mantra. Setting up shop at 241 West 37th Street three months ago, ODD caters to androgynous fashion fiends that love Rick Owens, but love their wallets more. They service minimalist-wearing city dwellers that scour mid-priced boutiques and hole-in-the-wall stores for offbeat treasures. They're on a mission to bring fashion back to its roots via real people with extraordinary style. Intrigued? Us too. We caught up with founder Judson Harmon to hear more about this exciting concept.

MAC DADDY
GEOFFREY MAC'S OUTRAGEOUS TALENTS AND FASHIONS

What do Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and the Scissor Sisters have in common besides music? A lot, apparently from Lady Bunny to Debbie Harry, Geoffrey Mac has dressed some of the biggest names in pop culture. His debut Spring 2012 collection is a creative and unique combination of ancient Mayan and Native American cultures, paired with a 1990's day glo club.
Mac hasn't always been designing. He worked at a nightclub as a courageous fire-breathing act, until an unfortunate accident left his face burnt. Fortunately for us, this is when he began creating art.
Mac commenced his design career by experimenting with latex designs and attracted the likes of freaks and fetish clients. due to Mac's clientele, his unruly landlord suggested he move out. Only then did he begin designing.
He was not just a master designer, but also a master at constructing garments and pattern making. In 2002, Mac began his own atelier, and it wasn't long before people took notice. In 2003 he received the Fashion Group International's "Style Makers & Rule Breakers Award for Apparel," and the following year, the Chicago Tribute awarded him the title of "Young Designer of the Year".
Prior to his official ready-to-wear debut, Mac had been working for Cynthia Rowley in New York City, but was still tinkering with his crazy looks for custom orders in his Brooklyn, N.Y. Studio. He began designing costumes for some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry, such as Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Dee Lite, Lil' Kim, and the Scissor Sisters.
His drive to create a ready-to-wear collection was motivated by his childhood idols. "When I was a child my pop culture icons were Billy Idol, Madonna and most of all Cyndi Lauper. I am still inspired by the images of these retro stars from the 80's however today they have a much more subdued style," said Mac in a recent interview with Style Wylde. He continues, "I have always been attracted to the next hottest look and always have appreciated those who are not afraid to express themselves." This inspiration gave him the drive to create some of the boldest and most expressive pieces the fashion industry has seen to date. His daring and unique pieces are what gives him the edge over other designers, and keeps him on the edge of the fashion industry. Currently the fashion public relations powerhouse, MAO P.R. (the Blonds, Rochambeau), based in New York City, represents Mac, and can be given credit for marketing this young talent into a soon to be household name.
Mac has often compared his pieces to fine art, and that they are. His Spring/Summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection featured a wide color palate and unorthodox use of materials such as turquoise stones and skulls, feathers, and wigs. There is nothing subtle about Mac's collection, especially since he is featured in the opening sequence of Nicki Minaj's controversial "Stupid Hoe" music video. Minaj wears the tribal inspired "Yemeja" that gives a spin on modern day swimwear. These details among other things make for a collection that is certainly far from mainstream. He uses green skirts made out of wigs, elaborate necklines made of neon colored fringe (almost reminiscent of a 20's style flapper on hallucinogens) and a body conscious bustiers. His clothes are certainly not for the faint of heart. Only the biggest risk takers of all fashionistas can wear these clothes. His fall/Winter 2012 collection that debuted earlier this spring at New York Fashion Week is definitely something that has the fashion industry in a buzz. Confident, fearless women everywhere: Geoffrey Mac is calling your name!

FUTURECLAW MAGAZINE REVIEW
Geoffrey Mac structured and graphic fall 2012 collection was, in many ways, out of this world. With beehive hairdos that easily rival those of the late Amy Winehouse, and colorful cat eye make up that puts Lady Gaga circa May 2011 to shame, the show, which was set to pulsating instrumental club beats, featured color blocking and bold prints. Thick, pronounced stripes and circles and leather cutouts, amongst other geometrics, felt mod. While there was a definite throwback to the 60's and Twiggy, as well as 80's inspired strong shoulders, Geoffrey Mac was more future than past.
The exaggerated forms are so over the top, you might have mistaken yourself for being at Roswell or Area 51 instead of at Exit Art in New York. The protruding shapes were pointy, and there was absolutely nothing soft to anything here, leading to an overall masculinity to a collection that also has a slight dominatrix feel. Mac certainly continues the futuristic, robotic, Tron-esque trends that have appeared as of late, and he is sure to continue to flourish with such designs as pop culture follow similiar visual themes, including the heavily anticipated Men in Black 3 film that's set to land in theaters this May. But be warned, this collection is for the supremely confident women only. Lady Gaga and her monster following will salivate.

The show took place in a clean, white, curtain-draped warehouse with concrete floors. The designs were not so innocent, however. As my body began to tremble in eager anticipation and from the pulsating beats, my jaw hit the floor with this futuristic collection. Definitely one of my favorites this season!
Ready to break out from prison, stripes were a consistent sight. Not only were funky stripes sported, but Geoffrey Mac also brought new meaning to Madonna’s cone bustier costume. He artfully constructed cone-like, 3D structures onto his mini dresses’ hips. Another frequent protruding detail found its way on the shoulders of many of the jackets. Descending hem lines on skirts were also catwalk regulars.
Bursts of colors, instead of the dark, muted tones for fall, were quite refreshing. Oceanic teals, sunny yellows, fire engine reds, and whites, along with some black made their presence known. Wools pants, skirts, and dresses accompanied by leather and silk infused futuristic lover with an inquiring bewilderment.
Geoffrey Mac certainly should be applauded for his creativity and fashion forwardness.

STYLEWYLDE INTERVIEW & DEBBIE HARRY’S NYE GOWN!
For years designer Geoffrey Mac has been the creative force behind theatrical costumes for some of the biggest names in music and pop culture. But now, for Spring 2012 the designer is bringing his unique eye and talent for creating show-stopping looks to the street wear realm. Style Wylde caught up with Geoffrey Mac this week to discuss inspiration, design, and creating the perfect New Years Eve gown for a true pop culture icon. DEBBIE HARRY NYE @ THE STANDARD
Tribal disco: Geoffrey Mac
It takes a truly daring and creative mind to turn tribal influences into frocks that could stop a disco. But disco-ready is what Geoffrey Mac’s spring 2012 dresses are. Here is a man whose resume can namedrop costuming for the likes of Lady Gaga and The Scissor Sisters, so it’s no wonder these products of his kaleidoscopic mind are edged with shiny metalics, neon colour, and theatrical drama.
Each outfit could belong to the Queen of an ancient tribe, worshipped for her Goddess-like qualities. But she’s not the understated type; nor is she tied to the past. In fact, much of Mac’s work feels distinctly futuristic.
Some of the pieces are shapeless and fringed, with Deco-like geometric prints; a Princess of 1920s exotica. Others are fishtailed and fantastical, others floating and feathered, all are tied together with the single commonality of being nothing short of attention-grabbing.
The look book’s hair and makeup by Darvell Freeman hits the same level of artistic boldness as the clothing. And the ancient moss and rising mist of the look book setting? That’s the land our tribal queens inhabit – when they’re not off partying.
